Flat and arid, and comprised largely of the Kalahari Desert, it is also home to the remarkable, seasonally flooded Okavango Delta, a wetland considered by many to be Africa's top wildlife and wilderness sanctuary. Other great attractions are the Chobe and Linyanti Rivers, the Makgadikgadi and Nxai pans and the endless dunes of the Kalahari, land of the San (Bushmen).
Botswana is one of Africa's success stories. Tourism was identified decades ago as the best way to create a sustainable industry that employs a large number of its people, while still preserving the environment. The country’s commitment to conservation has resulted in an excellent reputation for environmental tourism. The focus is on high-quality, authentic wildlife experiences. Limited numbers of guests are accommodated in exclusive camps and lodges, and the country offers the most spectacular safaris.
