Kenya

The country is named after Mount Kenya, a significant landmark and the second among the highest mountain peaks of Africa.

Within the borders of a single country, Kenya offers visitors savannahs rich with big game, timeless cultures unchanged by the modern world, pristine beaches and coral reefs, equatorial forests and mighty snow-capped mountains, searing deserts and cool highland retreats and endless opportunities for adventure, discovery and relaxation. This is what makes Kenya one of Africa’s most popular safari destinations – indeed, the word “safari” is a Kiswahili word meaning “overland journey”.

The Masai Mara, a large reserve in south-western Kenya, is effectively the northern continuation of the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. Named for the Maasai people and the Mara River, which divides it, it is famous for its exceptional population of game and the annual great migration of zebra and wildebeest from the Serengeti every year from July to October.

Kenya also has a number of other parks and reserves, each with its own attractions, as well many exclusive lodges and camps that offer excellent wildlife viewing and a top-notch safari experience.
