South Africa

Since the demise of apartheid, Nelson Mandela’s “rainbow nation” – the most developed and economically stable country on the African continent – has become one of the finest tourist destinations on the planet.

Known as a world in one country, South Africa offers an enormous variety of experiences that are unique to a region bound on one coastline by the warm Indian Ocean, and on the other by the cold Atlantic.

From the magnificence of cosmopolitan Cape Town, to the matchless beauty of the Kruger National Park, a reserve covering over two million hectares, to the rugged, fynbos-covered cliffs along the Garden Route in the Eastern Cape, to the pristine coral reefs of the KwaZulu-Natal coast line – South Africa has something for everyone. Its modern cities and sophisticated urban hotels are located just hours from protected, remote areas that offer exceptional game viewing and a true bush experience.

South Africa has more species of wildlife than any other country in Africa, and its parks are home to large populations of elephant, buffalo, zebra, giraffe, white and black rhino, lion, leopard and cheetah, to name a few.

Highlights:
Cape Town and the surrounding winelands
The Kruger National Park and private concessions adjoining the Park
The Garden Route – especially for golf enthusiasts

When to go
Cape Town and the Garden Route – October to April
Safaris – May to October
