It boasts the Zambezi, Kafue and Luangwa rivers, as well as the Victoria Falls, one of the greatest waterfalls in the world, and certainly the most magnificent. The country is characterised by a mild, pleasant climate, although the river valleys are hot and humid; the extreme north becomes tropical on the shores of Lake Tanganyika, one of Zambia's 10 large lakes.
Livingstone, situated at the Falls, is well known to travellers who enjoy activity-packed adventures around the Falls and on the Zambezi River.
Zambia offers impressive diversity when it comes to wildlife, and numbers are large and concentrated, as well as truly wild and remote, making game viewing an absolute delight. Giraffe and wildebeest are found in the Luangwa, alongside larger game such as elephant, buffalo and all the predators. Enormous herds of black lechwe inhabit the floodplains of the Bangweulu. Birdlife is prolific and there are over 740 bird species in the country. It’s also home to many species of predatory game fish.
The concept of walking safaris originated in Zambia, and it is one of the best ways to experience the rich flora and fauna of the country's 19 national parks. The country has an amazingly rich and diverse variety of habitats, ranging from floodplains, woodlands, swamps and forests to open savannah.
