About Me

John van den berg has been traveling, guiding, exploring and working in the wild parts of Southern Africa for the past 17 years. He is passionate about wildlife, environmental management, natural habitat and the conservation there of. John has had the privilege to work in some of Africa’s most exclusive wilderness areas including the Okavango Delta, Namibia and Mozambique allowing a deep understanding of these intricate environments, their challenges and their unsurpassed potential. An avid fly fisherman and photographer, John spends a great part of his time guiding specialized safaris and leading workshops sharing his vast knowledge of the ecosystems and ecology as he enthusiastically imparts and inspires a renewed understanding of the environments we travel through. When he is not on Safari, John lives in Wilderness along the Garden Route South Africa

Zambia - December 2009
December saw me head to South Luangwa National Park in North Eastern Zambia. Joining me were two Swiss couples who have been on many previous Safaris, but never travelled through Zambia. Every so often, we as guides take on a trip that regardless of how much time you've spent in the bush, reminds us why we do the work we do and this Zambian safari was indeed such a trip.

I recently had the privilege of taking my favourite clients to my favourite places. The Hofmann's from Switzerland joined me on their annual safari to Northern Namibia and with Essential Africa we set an itinerary for the discerning traveler.
