This owner-run and managed camp has been around for a while, and lately has become a favourite with wildlife enthusiasts. Avid photographers especially are fans of Kaingo Camp as a result of its uniquely designed and specially located photographic hides. These allow a different style of game viewing, and an opportunity to view and photograph birds and wildlife incomfortable seclusion. They provide a pleasant option for the hotter part of the day, a time that is often less productive with other forms of game viewing. Choose between the Hippo Hide, Carmine Bee-eater Hide during September and October, the Elephant Hide, and Mwamba Hide at a waterhole which attracts a variety of wildlife, and offers fantastic bird watching.
The camp’s six thatched chalets overlook the Luangwa River. Private decks offer a great view across the water and a fantastic place to enjoy lunch or early morning coffee. Game viewing is best during the drier season, June to October, when a high concentration of wildlife is drawn to this river which, quite literally, is the lifeblood of this region at this time of year.
Kaingo’s electricity system operates with inverters and batteries. This means there is always power to charge cameras and electrical appliances without the need for noisy generators while you’re in camp.
Day and night game drives are options here, as well as walking safaris. The Luangwa River has one of the highest populations of hippo in Africa, and leopards are seen by almost every guest. All of the other major game occurs here, with the exception of rhino. This camp offers an authentic, diverse safari experience coupled with wonderful hospitality and superb game viewing.
