Old Mondoro

Old Mondoro is owned and run by the Cumings family – once again, their personal touch is obvious, and adds greatly to the wonderful all-round experience at this camp. We’ve had the privilege of living and guiding in many superb lodges and regions throughout Africa, and this one in Zambia’s Lower Zambezi National Park is a firm favourite.

Located in a remote and spectacular area on the banks of the Zambezi, Old Mondoro blends into its surroundings as if it’s always been there. The endless stream of wildlife passing through camp would probably agree – you’ll experience some incredible game viewing from within camp itself, and the open nature of the guest areas makes a perfect place to sit back and enjoy the spectacle.

The feel at this camp is authentically wild. Each of the four guest rooms have reed and canvas sides, and are blissfully comfortable, with king-sized beds, outdoor showers and bath with hot and cold running water. An inverter system provides basic electricity throughout the camp.

The food is delicious, special dietary requirements are easily accommodated. Dinners under the stars around an open fire are memorable occasions, and all round, the standard of service is unbeatable.

Old Mondoro offers a variety of game viewing activities to make the most of this region’s incredible wildlife. Elephants favour the forested river banks, and often wander through camp. Leopards are frequently encountered, as well as lion and most other species, and you’ll be able to enjoy game drives both night and day. Bird watching is spectacular. The option of guided walks offers a great opportunity to get a closer look at the smaller creatures, plants and landscape. A boat cruise on the Zambezi, perhaps with a spot of fishing, is an exciting way to spend an afternoon. As with Chiawa Camp, the flexible and enthusiastic staff go out of their way to accommodate your choice of activity.
