Sand Rivers Selous Camp is located in Tanzania’s Selous Game Reserve, one of the largest reserves in the world. Considered the “forgotten corner” of this part of east Africa, this remote camp is spectacularly situated on a bend overlooking the sand banks and twisting channels of the Rufiji River. 

The eight thatched guest rooms are open to the cool river breezes, and make the most of the incredible views over the water. Natural colours and textures of the interiors blend into the rugged surroundings, and the entire camp is well-equipped and supremely comfortable. You’ll be able to charge camera batteries and other appliances both day and night, as there’s 220/110v electricity on hand, despite the isolated position. 

Mealtimes are great occasions to talk about the day’s adventures, with delicious home cooked meals served out on the deck in the main area, under a huge baobab tree next to the pool, or on your private deck. Special dietary requests are easily accommodated, and the service is friendly and gracious. 

The game viewing in this area peaks during the drier months, with July to November being the best time to visit. Activities are diverse, and you’ll be able to pick and choose your options accordingly. Game drives during the day explore this vast area in search of all the big game that is abundant here, plus many interesting and unique smaller species. Perhaps you’ll be fortunate to encounter an incredibly rare black rhino. Take a boat ride along the river, and be sure to do some walking with your guide to get a closer feel of this truly wild reserve. Night drives aren’t possible, but the chance to spend an entire night out in the wilderness in a fly camp that’s been especially set up for you is an unforgettable experience. This is true Africa.
