African Safari and Golf - Zambia and South Africa

The safari camps that we suggest in this itinerary offer a wide variety of activities and some truly fantastic photographic opportunities. You’ll be able to view and photograph wildlife from the comfort of game drive vehicles, as well as from a boat. If you would like to experience Africa on foot, walking is also an option well worth considering.

Both Chiawa and Old Mondoro camps are situated on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River, with magnificent views. Game viewing is superb, and there’s plenty of wildlife to be seen while in camp – even from your own tents. The ambience at these camps is created by the exquisite natural environment, and complemented by totally professional, yet homely service provided by all staff.

After Zambia, you’ll fly to Cape Town and the Garden Route for the golfing component of your safari. Cape Town is often described as one of the most beautiful cities in the world, with some of the finest golf courses and most spectacular settings imaginable. Your time here will be a blend of golf and sightseeing against a backdrop of dramatic scenery and rich local history.

The safari starts in Lusaka, Zambia

Shared charter flight from Lusaka International Airport to Royal Zambezi Airstrip. Boat transfer to Chiawa Camp.

Chiawa Camp - 3 nights

Resting peacefully on the banks of the Zambezi River, under a grove of evergreen Mahogany trees, Chiawa Camp holds the prime position in the heart of Zambia’s Lower Zambezi National Park. Constructed mainly of natural materials, Chiawa blends effortlessly into its idyllic surroundings, and guests receive the very best that Africa has to offer.

A stunning thatched lounge and bar area with upstairs viewing deck provides incredible views over the Zambezi. There are nine superior tents, each with excellent views. In the heat of the day, take a dip in the refreshing plunge pool, complete with sundeck, overlooking the Zambezi.

Boat transfer from Chiawa Camp to Old Mondoro.

Old Mondoro - 3 nights

The concept of Old Mondoro is simple – to provide guests with an authentic safari that concentrates on the wildlife and bush experience, without forgoing any creature comforts or service. Old Mondoro offers some of the most prolific leopard sightings to be had in Africa.

With only 8 beds, Old Mondoro is the Lower Zambezi National Park’s most intimate and private safari camp, exuding charm and charisma like nowhere else. Overlooking a maze of hippo-inhabited islands from a grove of Acacia trees that tower above the massive elephant bulls that often feed on them, this is perhaps the most beautiful site in the Lower Zambezi National Park, and certainly one of the most remote. Old Mondoro is perfect for guests seeking a premier Lower Zambezi safari in a small camp, with all the comforts, and a fabulous guiding team.

Shared charter flight from Lower Zambezi National Park to Lusaka International Airport.
Scheduled international flight to Cape Town International Airport, South Africa.

The Steenberg Hotel – 3 nights

Set amongst vineyards, this historic wine farm on the foothills of the magnificent Stone Mountains is just 20 minutes from the centre of Cape Town. During your stay, you’ll be able to enjoy the 18-hole championship golf course and luxury spa, and surrounding areas. Explore the spectacular scenery, including Cape Point, Table Mountain, Kirstenbosch Gardens, fine restaurants, wine tastings and city tours to learn about local culture, history and traditions.

Steenberg Golf Course

The 18-hole championship course meanders leisurely through the Steenberg vineyards, pine forests and gentle waterways, and features four distinct areas - wetlands, parklands, the Cape Flats, and fynbos. With five different tees, the course can be enjoyed by all, from championship to junior level. Conditions are superb on this soft spike course, and it is widely renowned for having the best greens in Cape Town. There are a number of practice areas at the Steenberg Golf Course, including a driving range, chipping area with sand traps, and a large putting green.

Wine Route Tour ending in Franschoek

La Petit Ferme Guest Suites, Franschoek – 2 nights

La Petite Ferme is set amongst vineyards on a working wine farm, boasting magnificent views of the Franschoek Valley. With a variety of accommodation to suit each guest, you’ll be able to relax in luxurious surroundings in between a round of golf at Pearl valley, perhaps some shopping in Franschoek, and a wine tasting course. The traditionally French town of Franschoek is the food and wine capital of South Africa.

Pearl Valley Golf Course

Voted third best golf course in South Africa, Pearl Valley Golf Estate is situated between Paarl and Franschoek, only 40 minutes from Cape Town. A full fleet of golf carts and superb playing surfaces make for an excellent round of golf. The clubhouse overlooks holes 9 and 18 of this prestigious Jack Nicklaus-designed course, and every hole is played against the spectacular backdrop of the mountains surrounding the estate. Strategically set bunkers and fast greens make this a challenging course.

Private road transfer from Franschoek to Cape Town International Airport. Scheduled flight to George Airport. Road transfer to Fancourt Golf Estate, George.

Fancourt Hotel – 3 nights

The Fancourt Hotel is a fine blend of modern luxury and classic elegance, set amongst lush gardens and world-class golf courses. Included in your stay is golf at Fancourt and Pinnacle Point, a day trip to Knysna and surrounding areas, and spa treatments. Explore this part of the Garden Route, with its indigenous forests, fynbos, lakes, rivers and mountains.

Fancourt Golf Estate

Fancourt is South Africa’s premier golf resort, with all three of its courses ranked in the Top 20 in South Africa. In addition, it has an exceptional golf academy with a tailor-made fitment centre and state-of-the-art teaching facilities, backed up by the expertise of PGA professionals.

The Links, designed by Gary Player, was inspired by the classic links courses in Scotland and Ireland. This fine course lies on what was once an airfield, and is a thorough test for every golfer. The glorious parkland layout of the Montagu course covers large tracts of varying terrain, with lush vegetation and water hazards. In contrast to the Montagu, Outeniqua is regarded as the easier of the two courses, with a more open feel. Water hazards and streams add numerous challenges. Fancourt offers a warm-up area, with a full-length range, and chipping and bunker practice areas.

Pinnacle Point Golf Course

Pinnacle Point is an 18-hole championship golf course with dramatic cliff-side holes, stretching along four kilometres of spectacular coastline, and over a thousand acres of unspoiled beachfront. The emerald green fairways and tees provide the perfect surface for superb shots, and the bent grass greens will ensure challenging and entertaining games.

The 72-par layout is characterised by 7 majestic holes that line the Indian Ocean rock cliffs. Each hole has been designed to fit the lay of the land, and reintroduction of the endemic flora and fauna is a vital part of Pinnacle Point’s commitment to the preservation of this naturally beautiful course.

Road transfer from Fancourt Hotel to George Airport. Scheduled flight to Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport for continuation of your own further travel arrangements.
