Classic South Africa

This country of contrasts is able to offer just about anything that might be on your list of must-do activities. Travel in South Africa is smooth and efficient, making it easy to explore your choice of world-class destinations. We’ve selected two of our favourite safari options for this region.

Kirkman’s Kamp lies next to the world-renowned Kruger National Park, and is part of the Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve famed for its intimate wildlife encounters, particularly leopard viewing. Home to a host of wildlife, including the Big Five, this reserve is part of a conservation area that covers over two million hectares (almost five million acres), an area equivalent to the state of New Jersey and larger than some independent countries.

Ngala Tented Camp is spectacularly situated on the seasonal Timbavati River, within Ngala Private Game Reserve, an easy transfer from Kirkman’s Kamp. This area is well known for its high densities of elephant, buffalo and rhino, as well as African wild dogs. Ngala was the first private game reserve to be incorporated into the Kruger National Park and has exclusive traversing rights on almost 15 000 hectares (37 100 acres) of this prime wildlife region.

Ease yourself back into the buzz of post-safari life with a few days in Cape Town. A trip to the Mother City could include a boat cruise to Robben Island, with its pivotal history of Nelson Mandela’s captive years. Take a different view of your surroundings from the top of Table Mountain. Enjoy our magnificent beaches, or head off into the winelands to enjoy some of the finest wines in the world. There are endless options in this wonderful city.

The safari starts in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Scheduled Flight from O.R. Tambo International Airport Johannesburg to Kirkman’s Kamp.

Kirkman’s Kamp - 3 nights

Kirkman’s Kamp is located high on a ridge overlooking the Sand River and undulating landscape. Each suite in this colonial-style camp has been individually decorated and no comfort has been spared. The original farmstead that forms the guest area of the lodge gives a glimpse back in time to bush life at the beginning of last century. This, combined with the world-class game viewing on offer, makes your stay here a truly luxurious, exhilarating and memorable one.

With no boundary fences between the reserve and the Kruger National Park, Kirkman’s Kamp benefits from the great diversity of wildlife found in one of the richest wilderness areas on the African continent, along with the additional benefits experienced on a private game reserve. Day-and night game drives traverse a private area where the strict vehicle limit at sightings ensures the exclusivity of your game viewing experience. Off-road driving ensures that you’ll be in the best possible position at exceptional sighting, and rangers are constantly in touch with each other by radio to keep track of animal movements.

Light Aircraft Transfer to Ngala Tented Camp, Timbavati Private Game Reserve

Ngala Tented Camp - 3 nights

Ngala means “lion” in Shangaan and the Reserve lives up to its name, supporting several prides of these powerful cats. A spectacular diversity of wildlife moves through this tract of wilderness, including elephant, spotted hyena, giraffe, buffalo and white rhino. However, it is even better known for excellent viewing of a more elusive cat, offering regular sightings of leopard, particularly females with their young. With more open savannah-like bush than the nearby Sabi Sand Game Reserve, Ngala guarantees exclusive game viewing.

Each of the camp’s luxurious tented units is perched on a raised wooden deck and enjoys all the comforts of home while allowing you to enjoy the feeling of being in the bush. The en-suite bathrooms with outdoor showers invite you to stay a while and soak up the sounds and scents of the bush from your canvas and stone sanctuary. Listen out at night for the roar of a lion as he patrols the Timbavati river bed that runs past camp. Buffalo bulls graze the lush lawns during the hours of darkness, and hyenas join the night chorus for some truly memorable evenings.

The contemporary décor of the guest areas and the beauty of the gardens and sparkling pool flanking the river conjures up an oasis of comfort. Delicious food and impeccable service from the genuinely warm-hearted Shangaan camp staff make Ngala Tented Camp a delight in all respects.

Road Transfer to Hoedspruit, Scheduled Flight to Cape Town

Four Rosemead, Cape Town - 4 nights

This exclusive guest house on the slopes of Table Mountain is an ideal base for exploring Cape Town and the surrounding areas. Accommodation consists of eight bespoke en-suite bedrooms with wonderfully stylish interiors and distinct local flair enhanced by original South African artwork.

This urban sanctuary nestled within landscaped gardens offers a variety of spa treatments in a relaxing environment. With its cosmopolitan city life and breath-taking scenery on all sides, anything’s possible in Cape Town.

The Safari ends in Cape Town.
