There are many places in the world to fly fish, there are few places where you can fly fish while drifting past elephants, hippos and crocodiles with the added bonus of the sudden arm wrenching pull from a tiger fish.
The tiger fish is considered the best fresh water fighting fish in the world and whether you are targeting them on a fly rod or conventional spinning tackle the sport is fast and explosive. During a recent safari we combined game viewing with catch and release fishing for tiger fish on Zambia’s Lower Zambezi River. By the end of the trip we had all caught fish of 8lbs and above with the heaviest being a beautiful female of 10.5lbs.
Casting to these fish while gently drifting down stream passing herds of elephants, buffalo, pods of hippos and scattered general game is an experience to be remembered and something that any keen fisherman and wildlife enthusiast should consider doing at least once in their lifetime.
