We were extremely excited when we discovered tracks from a pride of lions which had literally strolled through our camp the previous evening. The following morning, just after we left camp, we spotted the lions stalking a lone gemsbok bull.

The lions in this part of Namibia have evolved to live in this incredibly hostile environment, surviving on minimal surface water and often going for long periods without anything substantial to eat. The difficulties of surviving in these conditions, coupled with conflict with stock farmers, have dramatically reduced these specialized desert lions to literally just a handful that remain in the wild.

This was truly one of the highlights of our time at the Skeleton Coast.
